Fernbesprechgerätesatz (Remote Control Set) Vers.-Nr. 5820-12-139-5253
Also known as FBG 25 SEM .
As usual with the military radios of this era, the SEM series have a
separate remote control set. Such a remote control set has several uses,
for instance it can be used as a field telephone between the local and
the remote control boxes. However, the remote user also can communicate
with other crew members in the vehicle or use the radio sets that are part
of the vehicle's commo gear.
The SEM 25 remote control set consists of a local- and a remote control
box, with extras like a carrying bag, extra handset, a webbing harness
to mount the local control box on top of the SEM 25 transceiver.
In principle the local and the remote control box can be connected by
a length of field wire, simple two pair wire will do the trick. However,
schematics in the manuals show that set-up is not quite as simple in the
case of for instance a tank, where the moving turret would contain most
of the commo set-up - the connection would have to pass through the slip ring (schleifring)
in order to get to the body of the vehicle.
The local control box is located within the turret, connecting to the
On-board Communications Amplifier with two fixed cables that end in standard
audio connectors. It also has two binding posts, to connect it to the slip ring
(schleifring).
Once in the body of the vehicle, the signal goes to the Outboard Control
Box, that in it's turn is connected to the Outboard Communications Unit
- that is situated outside the armour. Here there are again to binding
posts that will the actual field wire going out to the remote control box...
